Welcome to the 7th module of our presentation skills training program, "You Are The Scriptwriter." In this module, we'll be focusing on the importance of taking ownership of your presentation slides and the core message you want to deliver.

Mind Model

Understanding how the mind works will allow you to quickly capture your audience’s attention, and wield your influence with greater power. That’s why I’m going to help you understand three different parts of your brain.

This includes a scientific, neuro-linguistic perspective on your brain.

For example, the human prefrontal cortex is a far newer part of the brain. This means the ancient brain--the lizard part of your brain--takes power easily. So, we have to create safety, connection and commonality between you and the audience, zeroing-in on the parts of the brain that must feel safe to enter into a relationship with you.

As we understand why we need to create safety, relatedness and commonality between yourself, and the person to whom you’re presenting, you’ll find that you can speak to the brains of your listeners.

Self-Image Mirror

This is the most important psychological tool in your arsenal, which will allow you to present with world class presence, transforming your delivery.

Self-image is the strongest force in psychology. We act consistently according to how we see ourselves. Lottery winners often lose their money, because they see themselves as “normal,”

Weight loss reverses occur often because people see themselves as overweight. And people who don’t speak well see themselves as incompetent, scared or introverted in front of a crowd.

This is the power of self-image; this is where I start every conversation with a professional. You can have the best script and know your routine cold. But if you’re locked in an inappropriate self-image, nothing in the world is going to help you shine like you deserve.

First, we need to maximize your self-image, and show you what you’re capable of.

Voice Attunement

Everyone has a wide vocal range--however, most of us simply aren’t using it!

Dynamic speech is only possible with dynamic voice. (Why hit just a few notes, when you can entertain with all 88 keys?) If you’re a leader, you must use the voice of a leader. Master your authoritative voice, which is aligned with your role, then you will be perceived as the leader.

Then master your storytelling voice.

Yes, there are unique voices you can summon for each circumstance. Mastering your voices will give you more clarity, authority and spellbinding power.

There’s melody.
Tonality.

It’s a language all its own, and 38 percent of your communication, which I will help you practice. I wish someone had told me about voice modulation 10 years ago! The good news is, it’s never too late to learn, practice, and use it.

Effective Tool 7

Embodiment of Speech

Blazing confidence comes from going-the-distance during practice. Imagine laying out your entire presentation on the floor, page by page, then “taking a walk” along it. Do this for real, and like an actor, you can become your speech. Connecting the themes of what you’re saying to your body will transform how you present. It will also speed memorization. When you finally give your talk, your body will be active, you’ll literally feel it’s giving the talk with you, in its own superb way, and with expression.

It’s a totally different experience--and one that moves you high on the echelon of professional speakers.

Movement--using your body, its shape and dynamics, even your surroundings--is what most speakers lack. Using your ENTIRE body during a presentation will animate your talk and make it impossible to ignore.

Speak on the biggest stages by animating your speech, and bringing your body to life. Public speaking is like a full contact sport. It requires that you commit to moving your body completely, with intention and purpose.

Become conscious of your gestures.
And transform the way you speak.

When you are able to clearly and confidently communicate your vision and goals, you inspire confidence and trust in your followers. On the other hand, a chaotic, distracted, and scattered mindset can undermine your credibility and effectiveness as a leader. It is important to recognize the value of focusing inwardly and considering your own needs, values, and beliefs. By unlearning the tendency to think outwardly and constantly seek validation from others, you can better understand the importance of doing things for your inner world and for your soul. When you are true to yourself and express your values and core beliefs authentically, you honor your own persona and attract like-minded individuals who resonate with you. At the same time, this authenticity may also polarize those who do not share your values and beliefs.
